Una diferencia importante entre antis\u00e9pticos y desinfectantes es que los primeros son menos potentes.<\/p>\n<p>Dentro de la gran gama de qu\u00edmicas existentes para fabricar desinfectantes y antis\u00e9pticos, podemos encontrar los productos a base de fenoles y sus derivados, como los alquilfenoles (cresoles, xilenol, timol), los fenoles clorados (clorofenol, cloroxinelol, bifenoles (triclosan, hexaclorofeno), nitrofenoles, polifenoles, etc.<\/p>\n<p>En 2013, la Administraci\u00f3n de Alimentos y Medicamentos (FDA, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s), comenz\u00f3 a cuestionar a los fabricantes de productos de limpieza sobre el uso en sus formulaciones de sustancias qu\u00edmicas nocivas para la salud, tales como el triclos\u00e1n, presente regularmente en jabones l\u00edquidos y el triclorocarb\u00e1n, presente en jabones de barra. Investigadores de esta dependencia aseguran que la exposici\u00f3n a largo plazo a estos dos compuestos, podr\u00edan interferir con los niveles de hormonas y generar resistencia bacteriana.<\/p>\n<p>Desde que esta publicaci\u00f3n se dio a conocer, los fabricantes han ido eliminando de manera gradual el uso de estos compuestos.<\/p>\n<p>Una alternativa m\u00e1s segura para sustituir estos dos productos es el <strong>Cloroxilenol<\/strong>, el cual es un derivado fen\u00f3lico cuya actividad antis\u00e9ptica se explica por la inactivaci\u00f3n enzim\u00e1tica y la ruptura de la pared bacteriana. Es conocido tambi\u00e9n como <strong>paraclorometaxilenol (PCMX)<\/strong>. Tiene muy buena actividad sobre organismos gram positivos y buena sobre organismos gram negativos, micobacterias y algunos virus.<\/p>\n<p>El cloroxilenol es un producto seguro, de alta eficiencia, amplio aspecto y de baja toxicidad.<\/p>\n<p>Se formula en concentraciones del 0.3 al 3.75%. Pese a que el compuesto se absorbe por la piel se tolera bien y no es com\u00fan la reacci\u00f3n al\u00e9rgica.
